Fatma Emin Kutvar Anadolu Lisesi
Balikesir Fatma Emin Kutvar Anadolu Lisesi is a general high school, with students aged 14-18, having 300 students and 30 teachers; 2 teachers of English and 4 other teachers from different subjects speak good English and they help the language teachers in international projects. Its quality was labelled by Ministry of Education as it was awarded in 2011 as the 3RD school in Turkey in Total Quality Management Practices Competition organised by the Ministry of Education.
Background and experience
Our classrooms all have smart boards and internet connection to use in the lessons. There is a wireless internet as well. These smart boards are actively used during the lessons both by usingvarious applications and also videos, documents, presentations. We have a Computer lab, a Biology lab, a Physics lab, sports hall and a library with the latest publications. Students earn the right to enter our school after a Nationwide exam after the 8TH Grade of Secondary schools. Our school has 2 types of classes; English and German. The English classes students learn English as their first foreign language and German as their second foreign language. And the German classes students vice versa.Our Students’ profile is mostly of high background. The students’ and their families’ socio-economic, cultural and educational levels are generally high. However, a minority of our students face some economical, family or psyhological problems. For example, we have students coming from rural areas or their families and social relations are also problematic. We try to help and support the students with different problems by giving the same opportunities as the other students in EU Projects, Club activities or any kind of activities and try to help overcome these problems. In addition, each class has a Class Teacher who is responsible from the students. Therefore, tha class teachers know the students in their class better. They deal with their any kind of problems; they talk to the students, their families and other teachers in case of problems. In addition to Class Teachers, we have a psychological counsellor at our school. S/he takes care of all students and helps them in any case of problematic situations more professionally. In our school, many clubs,such as Sports Club, Solidarity Club, Tourism Club, Philosophy Club and Literature Club work actively and offers numerous opportunities for students. We also have a Charity Group called GÖK ( Gönüllü Öğrenciler Kulübü); Volunteer Students Group. It was solely organised and started by the students themselves, we as teachers act just as helpers. This group organises some charity events for the school and for the students with a low income at our school. For example; visit toSanitarium for the Old, Dogs Shelter, organisation of a festival at school. They also organised a charity event to collect stationary items for the students in Syria.
